Okay, so as many of you know sewing is just my hobby. My profession (at least thats what my degrees say) is illustration/animation.
I haven't drawn from a figure in about 2 years. I was GROSSLY out of practice and frankly ashamed of it. While rooting on the tubal-inter-webs for life drawing, I came across The Drawing Club. Simply put, it's a costumed 3 hour drawing session where the poses are 5-15 minutes. An ideal atmosphere for illustrators/animators, etc.
I had been going a couple of weeks and could barely look at what I was walking away with. I knew I would get back into the zone, I just had to be patient and keep drawing no matter what it looked like. I liken the experience of warming back up to drawing from the figure to ironing a really wrinkled shirt. The longer you do it,the better the shirt looks until its just smooth and crisp.
This past week, I was feeling back in the zone. I mentally prepared for drawing. I mean there was even a vintage theme! Josephine Baker doing the banana dance! Was all set. Had my coffee in my thermos, an extra pencil sharpener, the works. Everything EXCEPT MY GLASSES!
GAWD!
I drew anyway, even thought I couldn't see any facial features on the model. I concentrated on form, and it turned out to be a rather interesting exercise.
The sketches can be seen on my portfolio site here.
Love them. I used to do figure drawing many years ago and still have many of my drawings somewhere. I love the eyes on the drawing in the blog. Have fun with this.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! I just love the female figure, it's beautiful. That must have been a fun session. Thanks for sharing your sketches with us.
ReplyDeleteVery belatedly, I love the sketches (and the animations---especially the Ninja Sheep!)
ReplyDelete5-15 minute poses---Perfect! (speaking as someone who's been both drawer and model) Wish I had something like that locally to drop in on... I am soooooo rusty it's not even funny.
