Well now, 2021.
We have all had some highs and lows, and I’m sure for many, those times are not over, but as I in particular go into 2022, I wanted to give you more of an update as to what has been going on in my life.
It all mostly started out just surviving the ‘Rona. We were all hunkering down and I was getting closer to the already close building friends as time went on.
Things I got done over Quarentine:
My Granny passed away at 101, and I went home to see family. I had not been home for over 6 years and I felt so good to reconnect.
Then things started to open up, and in my field, that meant a huge surge in work.
I’m an animator, and people wanted content. I found myself a part of a lot of projects, one in particular that brought me on full time.
I became the Visual Director for an up and coming multicultural media company called UWish. There I re-develop the intellectual properties and get them to a larger audience. Boy howdy, when I tell you that I hit the ground running, I hit the ground running.
It’s been character designs and meeting with illustrators and artists and actors and all sorts. I’ve talked to so many in established Black Los Angeles and it has been a wonderful adventure.
Then a big thing happened, and I was able to leave the country for the very first time. I went to Ghana to visit an animation studio we are patterning with, and though there are some bumps to work out, it was a very life opening trip.
From there, I was able to put out my first children’s book. You can get it here :) And we are currently working on our second. 2022 is forecast to be a big year for the company, and I’m just gonna did in and get it done!
As you can tell, so much change didn’t allow so much for sewing outside of clients. My sewing frankly took a back burner to all this change in the latter of this year, but now that I’m moving to a much, MUCH larger place, I’ll have an actual sewing studio. I can’t wait to set it up and really get back into my patterns and finish my line.
So in preparation for that, over the last few months I’ve been tying up a lot of my many smaller projects. Now all I need to focus on is my patterns, my Visual Director job and that will be it! It will be one of the first times in my life where I didn’t need to take 300 jobs to make ends meet.
I can’t tell you how excited I am about it all.
So be prepared in 2022 for more actual sewing content from me. I’m itching to get back into it, you have no idea. I miss sewing and sewing clothes for myself, and all my DIY adventures. I miss you all.
Thank you for sticking with me and be sure I am so ready to get back to it.
One of the first things I plan on doing after the move next month is, once I’m settled, I am getting the new blog and website up.
Big plans for NVL and a LOT of things to finish. Time to work!
Thanks all!
Shelley
And happy 2022!!
