I've been looking through my catalogs getting ideas for my dust bowl look. Dress cuts, fabrics, blah blah, but what I really need are accessories. Shoes and headwear. I know that will complete the look.
It just so happens I actually lucked out of part of this revelation. As you all recall my fabric moment at Playclothes last month, it was a beneficial visit. As I was looking around, I happened on this pair of white 30''s shoes. They were marked 8 1/2, but they didn't look it. So I tried them on and they fit like a dream! I felt so Cinderella! It made me realize how shoes are still the major crutch in my wardrobe.
Oh 30s shoes, with your amazing details, sound heel and sensible wear.
They make or brake an outfit.
They really do. I've gotten by with cheap shoes, but as I mentioned earlier in a previous post, I'm so over cheap shoes. Finding those 30's oxfords just pushed me forward.
I'm going to save for a pair of Remix.
I'm really leaning for a pair of the Savoy, as I think they will go best with my dust bowl theme and give me the most wear. But this all has yet to be decided. Oh, I am such a girl when it comes to shoes.
I also picked up a pair of Keds which have been worn since the 20s, so these will go great with all my classic styles. It's 'canvas', which in modern terms means a woven polyester. *sigh* My PF Flyers I wear everyday. Love those things. I got these because I wanted a darker shoe and man are they comfy.
So, I'm getting shoes covered, now its time to address the other part of my body, hats.
I've always wanted one of those huge brimmed sun hats that you see women from the early 30s wearing. The soft floppy numbers with a big satin bow.
I think they are so cool. I can't find/afford a vintage pattern to make one, but I have a modern one that I do believe I can modify. Using some of the pictures from my catalogs I have as inspiration, I think I'll get there. *All images from Chicago Mail Order 1935*
Oh accessories. Why must you make us want you so? Why must you make or brake a look. Curse you.
Those white shoes -- marvelous!

ReplyDeleteThose 30's shoes are so cute! I have been thinking of getting a pair of Keds, I might just have to go for it. ;] I love you blog, by the way, I'm not sure I have ever commented before. :]
ReplyDeletePF Flyers ARE way better than Converse! I cant understand why they have not made a comeback, especially after they did a reissue line not too long ago.

The shoes are great, this 1925 reproduction hat works well, I wore them all summer.
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly the hat I was thinking of, Steph. Im gonna try and draft my own, though. Just to see if I can :)
