Simplicity 2398
Its not so much I'm sick of seeing this late 40s dress, its just its got the worst fabric choices on just about any pattern illustration I've seen. I mean, the dress is fine, its not bad at all, and those stripe inset deals could be rocked hard....but ew. Forrest green with white polkadots? You can't see any details on the dress! And coral with white stripes? That one makes me sea sick for some reason.
I see it all the time (Im holding a copy right now), and its like no one wants this pattern.
I think of it as the little pattern that could...if given better fabric choices.
I'll bet that those great horizontal pieces seriously affect the drape of the skirt. If you make it out of a sheer fabric, the salvage shows. How many patterns have you bought that were great in theory...in practice, not so much.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the instructions and the back lay out, the horizontal pieces are added onto a full bodice. I suppose you could cut them out, but how much of a pain would that be!?

I would love forest green with polka dots. Not the coral so much, beacuse warm colours doesn't look so good on me, but I think that it's pretty.
ReplyDeleteI like the pattern and would love one. I don't tend to pay too much attention to the fabric on the envelopes because I know I am going to use my own. I am on a shirtwaist binge and I'd love one of those in MY size.
