As I progress with my repro line, and, well, Ill use any excuse to
draw, Ive had a couple of gals who know me ask, "Why don't you redraw the pattern drawings? You have them all over
your site, why not?" Huh, thats a good idea. I did want the fashion illustrations to be a bit larger gals, and the original drawings are *so* not my style. So I got out my vintage fashion illustration book, and started to sketch.
Now, this is VERY rough, and as the book says, 'your drawing should sell the dress', I started with this day dress.
What do you all think?
**edit**
Im thinking this...
i love the idea of using your talent at drawing to re-draw the pattern images, especially for a curvier representation!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea. I especailly like that you've shown how the dress looks on someone who isn't a size 8 :)
ReplyDeleteI like it! The original pattern illustration has the woman wearing the dress looking kind of snobbish, while yours is fun and friendly. :) Big improvement.
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies. I think Im going to go a more naturalistic vibe with the drawings. I feel this is too 'cartoonie' for what I want to do.
ReplyDeleteGreat, like I *need* another project!
I love it! I also really like seeing the patterns on larger gals too.
ReplyDeleteYour drawing is great. Usually pattern illustrations are so unrealistic.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing this with my vintage patterns too (I'm also a cartoonist) and may also go a bit less cartoony with my images to look more "vintagey"!
