Happy August!
This Sunday's crop of images is a little different.
Often when I am looking through patterns, I'll come across one where a smart lady clipped a newspaper listing from a mail order or what have you. Often the clipping is either taped to the envelope of the delivered mail order. But in some cases, I've found them tucked in name brand patterns that share the design advertised. Perhaps she was going to alter the mail order or the retail pattern...
Here is my amassed collection of said clippings.
These are the actual envelopes of some of the mail orders I have.
I'm sure a lot of you have some of the same. I love all of the choices.
This last one is a page from the Marian Martin catalog. The opposite side has a free blouse pattern on it. That's my guess as to why it was saved.
Lovely! Thanks for posting this.
ReplyDeleteI love it when I find surprises in my vintage patterns. The latest is a newspaper page that had births on it. I am thinking about contacting the guy that I believe is the baby it was saved for (there was a last name written on some of my patterns that match one of the babies). Should I?
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I always love saving clippings and notes I find in vintage patterns--it's like a link to the previous owner. :) I love the embellished blouses in this bunch of clippings--really glam!

I love your blog, and when I stumbled across this link on TYWKIWDBI I thought of you. The 40's fashions on real people in that super-saturated kodachrome color...wow.
ReplyDeleteMy fave has to be the "Rosie the Riveter" shot of the black lady working on the dive bomber in the Tennessee factory.
I hope you like these.

I have that first mailer back--the reddish one with "30" on it--with a waist-yoke housedress pattern from the Los Angeles Times. No postal date, unfortunately. Nineteen-forty-something.
