On the hem of my balboa dress! It made whip stitching so much faster.
Duh me for not thinking of it sooner!
First off, I finally finished by balboa dress. All hand sewing, collar, jabot, belt, everything! Yay. I hope to have final photos tomorrow on NVL for you all.
It was a strange day of projects for me. I actually got up early for once (as you can tell by the time stamp of this post, that will not be the case tomorrow). I was quite productive: I worked on an illustration, sewed, illustration, baked sugar cookies, illustration, then sewed. I like it when I alternate like that. Things take longer to get done, but I feel like I've made progress on all sorts of things.
I also got further along on my sheer 40s blouse. I added the sleeves.
I gotta say, making a sheer blouse takes twice as long as making a regular one. One reason is the seam finishing. I found myself skipping the french seams and just doing a very heavy serger chain after I sewed the particular part together. It works real well, but it's doubling the over locking and that uses a lot of thread. Man, if I had only planned that earlier.
Onc thing I realized with the blouse was the front facing would need special treatment. I decided to overlock the inside edge, but you can see it through the blouse.
I ended up turning back that edge and doing a whip stitch.
I'll press it down good once I finish the whole thing.
I actually messed up on the sleeve, well, one sleeve. I turned it wrong side out, hand stitched the opening and did all the finishing on it only to find after that it was wrong side out! CRAP!! I lost about 1/2" of ease, which isn't too bad and it fit just fine when I placed it so, I guess it's a lesson learned. I still have to add the cuffs which will be in the navy, then I get to pick buttons, YAY!
I would have worked on my second pair of clamdiggers but because of the Mending project form yesterday and that being my only denim needle, I couldn't work on them. *sigh* Not to worry, I picked up a couple of packs of denim needles online so they should be here shortly.
Don't forget the giveaway deadline! Plenty of time to still enter!
Have a great day everyone!!
I didn't know what a darning egg was for, or at least what it was for. Thanks
