Every Sunday when you post these pages from a catalog, I am just so amused by the prices. $1.39 for a really nice (house)dress that was worn only around the house but that I think would be awesome to wear into town. Or those very stylish dresses in the last pictures - less than $5 for a gorgeous Sunday-go-to-meeting dress.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love this peak into the styles that my grandmother wore.
I just want to go back in time with todays income and buy EVERYTHING! $1 for a dress....wwwwweeeeeeeeeeee!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Chellzapoppin. I'm guessing that those $1.00 dresses were a good value even at 1941 prices because adjusted for inflation they would only be $14.41. I'd buy a cute cotton dress for that now it I could.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I have a request can you upload a fifties catalog and more foundation garments? By the way I read that you wanted a girdle but you had problems. Have you tried Rago ? Also you can get a corset like this that is easier to adjust to your body shape. http://www.buygirdles.com/INV_OBAW.htm
ReplyDeleteBrittany
Oh ladies, a dollar isnt just a dollar. :)
ReplyDeleteAccording to the inflation calculator, $1 in 1941 is just under $15 today. Still thats thrifty for a ready made dress.
http://www.westegg.com/inflation/
Edwardianbeauty, my focus is 1930s to mid 1940s. I dont have any 50s catalogs. Also I have indeed tried (and own) a few Rago pieces. Im going to cover that in the next foundation post Im putting together. :)
Thanks ladies for the comments!
I want a dress that PROVES I am graceful and pretty!
ReplyDeleteIf I had one in my wardrobe I suspect I would never reach for anything else.
Thanks for posting!
I love how women could just be women...but I do love my sweats and sweatshirt in the evening! Did they ever just get comfy?!
