Is everyone ready to get started!!?? I am.
I've narrowed down my first projects for Make & Mend and I'm excited to get started on them.
First off I was excited a recent supply purchase came in. When I was at the Queen Mary a couple of weeks ago, one of the gals had this delightful burlap sack purse. It was modern, but I thought it was so cute. I recently came across a modern burlap potato sack, and I thought what better time than to make one.
I have this amazing 4 page WWII booklet on how to make grocery bags, but for the life of me I can't find it! I know I'll find it one day, when I'm not looking.
The bamboo purse handles I got from this website. They were a great price but shipping was a lot because they came from Australia. Still, they were just what I was looking for.
I want to make a larger everyday bag. I'll line this with some cotton I have from my everyday stash.
Also, I want to make a white rayon crepe version of my newest repro.
I don't have any white dresses, and I think this will be so cute in a flowy rayon crepe. I have some rayon that just might be enough, but I have to make a mock up first. I'll use this fabric for that. I got it at a per the pound sale and it's got a great drape.
I also got a pair of light wood handles for another purse. I'm not too sure what I'm going to do with those yet.
What is everyone else starting on?
I just washed some blue chambray and some khaki chambray/linen look fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI shall pull patterns from my stash and make myself a dress...kinda swingy panel dress with a front zip and a pair of capris.
I have a little girl's dress all cut out and the turned under parts all turned under and ironed....from the above blue chambray that has been languishing in my closet.
I have an apron to make that is supposed to look like a karate gi.
And a table runner for a b-day gift.
I'm quite sure I will over burden myself with something else just to make it more interesting.
Maybe applique my holey jeans or turn them into burmuda length or turn them into a skirt. I don't think I own a skirt..........mmmmmmmm
I really need to start repairs on my swirl if I ever want to wear it I think that should be my first project and it needs about 3 different repairs. First I should start with sewing up the seams on the side where the belt goes through as it is going down an extra inch right now. I will have to also re attach the belt then someone was safety pinning on the belt instead of doing a proper repair so now there are holes from the safety pins that will need mending.
ReplyDeleteI have alot to do! I have recently lost alot of weight, so I am adjusting some of my fave dresses to me new size. I also have a few hideous 1980s/1990s poyester dresses just ripe for remakes. AND, I have some new cusions to make out of fabric from my stash and some old tshirts. It's gonna be a busy month!

ReplyDeleteI'm still working on futzing with the bra pattern I bought from you (it's a good pattern, but i'm a difficult fit, fitting bra is way different than fitting a shirt, and when i got the pattern i was busy making a friend's wedding dress!) and using a 40s playsuit pattern to make a swimsuit.
ReplyDeleteSynj, I know! Im a very tough bra fit. I had a leisure bra pattern that just kicked my ass. *sigh*
