Perhaps it stress. I'm bugged out on a lot of things. But the plus is I do have a freelance gig lined up. Wish me luck everyone, mama need the cash.
Maybe I'm off because I'm trying to regulate by body clock. I've been trying to go to sleep by taking a mild sleep aid which helped the two days I took it. Then I switched to beer, and well, that didn't help. So I guess I have to get back on the sleep aid. It worked great. I didn't feel groggy or sluggish when I work up, but not too rested either. And I've heard mountains from friends about 'how much sleep' you need. Sheesh, everyone is an expert.
Mainly I think I'm bummed because I don't have the funds from my corset making supplies anymore. My scanner broke, again, and I need it for listing patterns on etsy, which is a good chunk of my income now, so that takes priority.
Crap.
So I'm almost at enough to get a new scanner (no more used ones) and when I do, I'll be back in business.
I was hoping I'd have this just broken scanner would last long enough until I was rich and could get the scanner I *really* want. I guess I woke up from that delusion. Heheh.
Op! Just woke up :)
I'm afraid that means no Catalog Sunday this Sunday! I KNOW! I'm actually sad about it! I often scan images on Saturday, and sometimes I do scan ahead of time, but this is not one of those times. *sigh* I'll have to see what I have on my hard drive, but I had the booklet I was going to use all picked out. Oh broken scanner, who knew you would ruin my life!!
Despite all of that I did manage to get some work done on my Plain Pattern dress.
Okay, a lot of work done on the dress, like complete all the machine sewing and even finished the belt.
I used this cotton/linen blend which had this great grain in it and it is so delightful to see it on the grain (yeah!) all through the garment. I feel so accomplished.
This is the first dress which I decided to make the one the most like the pattern. I made it 3/4 sleeves, which even though I raised the elbow darts up, still might be a tad too long. So I'm pondering making it into a short sleeved number, but Ill finish it before I make that decision.
For the front, because it's folded on the bias, I faced the linen. I don't like how linen handles button holes. I think it always needs some sort of reinforcement, especially if you are going to be machine washing it. The linen brakes down and the area gets softer and softer and if those button holes are stressed, then you will get tears. I speak from experience. I had a pair of brown linen sleep pants that I cant button anymore, the side button holes have all ripped beyond use. Still, when there is nothing else clean, I'll pin them on. Man, I should of repaired those for Make and Mend.
But I digress....
I talked about me darting the bodice neckline near the top, which I softened even more. I may adjust the back to the pattern on the next dress to be a tad more narrow at the top of the neckline so I don't get as much gape at the top. I fell it's too much, when I'm finished with it and I have images, I'll let you all be the judge.
Last but not least , YES, I am going to make the bra next :)
From all the comments in posts to etsy quires to emails, people want to see me make that bra. Yes yes yes! I'm working on it now and I will post about it on Saturday, scouts honor.
So that has been my few days. I do so hope everyone else has had a better week.
How are you all doing on your Plain Patterns?
Have a great Friday!!
I'm sorry that you've had bad luck lately but on the plus side your dress is looking great. I can't wait to see the bra pattern made up. I've gone as far as picking my plain pattern but that's about it.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to take a close up picture of the pattern & post that?
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks great! I was thinking that you could always do a "best of" Sunday catalogs, and rerun one of your favorites from the past!
ReplyDeleteIt's time for me to stop lurking and let you know how much I enjoy your blog. I love your style and can't wait to see the bra pattern results. I've been thinking about making bras and panty set but all the patterns I've seen were for smaller sizes.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you can read minds.
I'm sorry you had some bad luck."This too shall pass".
You are awesome !
Oh, people!
ReplyDeleteHi! :)
A best of Catalog Sunday, isnt a bad idea, Catsenior. Hmmm...
Thanks all for the compliment on my dress. I like how its coming and I'll take pics of it this weekend. Im staying in this weekend. I dont want to be bothered with folks and Im saving for that blasted scanner :)
Tomorrow, bra talk!
Your dress looks great! I'm still trying to pick out the perfect plain pattern. What a great idea for a sewalong. I love sewing so much more when you know you'll get good fit, and at least the second and third should be shoe-ins for it.
ReplyDeleteAs a fellow sleepless lady, good luck getting back on track! We'll get there eventually.
I've started sewing. It's turning out ok, but I'm considering some changes for version 2.
