I realized I don't post enough of my events on my blog. I'm gonna change that.
This Sunday was a fun one. A friend of mine began hosting Sunday Swing Socials in the lobby of her apartment building, The Gaylord. Now this is not just a renovated apartment building, it was once a hotel to the stars. The lobby is filled with memorabilia. Photographs, hotel registries, bar soap, room keys, menus, and other odds and ends. I've been to this place before, but the community in the building allow for lovely socials. There was even a woman having an art sale out by the pool. It was a lovely vibe.
The social was from 4pm to 8pm. I got there around 430 and the drummer had not arrived yet. Once he did, things got under way. People began to file in and soon the 'real' dancers arrived. It was fun. I danced a lot, which was the plan, and I got to hang out with a lot of people and just have a good time.
Here are some pictures of the event.
After that a few of us went out to eat. I had some $10 ramen that wasn't that good then we went to a Goth club where we danced for nearly two hours. That was fun. The free dancing to crazy heavy beats is quite freeing, but limiting. I like partner dancing more, but it was a joy to be in a different and in a different place. I even got up on one of the platforms that flanked the stage. Danced up there for about 20 minutes. We got quite a few looks from the real Goths but once we all stared dancing, it all went away.
And the extra mega bonus? When I got home my feed didn't hurt!
