Hundreds of Historic Photos of Buffalo Released

Yale recently digitized and released over 170,000 photos taken by the Farm Security Administration during the Great Depression, and 331 of them were from Buffalo and Erie County. The photos, which primarily document the lives of everyday laborers and their families in Buffalo, were originally meant to gin up support for New Deal-style government programs, many of which had just been thrown out by the courts.

The interactive map is so cool. 

Search old historical areas of your families or where you want to see how it used to look. I found this one searching my county in Louisville (Jefferson county) and its by the MIssissippi river! How cool!

This week I have a cool little article from The New Yorker called A Secret History of Women and Tattoo. It's got some great images of classic ladies and their ink as well as some nice synopsis about tattoo's history among women. That book might be worth a read.

Today I have some great archival clips I found on this cool footage site.

T3Media has tons of footage pieces available for purchase and licencing. Their search engine is cool and you can roll over a clip to have it play, or you can click on it to get a larger image.

I did a search of women WWII and found all of these.

It's a cool site and has tons of footage. It's only clips though. I'd love to see a site that has tons of full footage.

This cool vintage tumblr is just what it says it is Art Deco Architecture.

I love the cool crisp lines. I actually like deco more so than nouveau.

There are hundreds of pages, all captioned and most with a bit of history. Thank you! This is a great way to just loose yourself in the sleek design of yummy deco!

Hi everyone. Sorry I've been out of it lately. Because of the meds I'm on when I get home I just want to veg out and sleep. I get off the medication for my sinus infection next week when I'm hoping that it will all clear up and I can bet back to business.

But I do have a Cool Vintage Things on the Internet post for you.
I LOVE typographic design. I might not be as nuanced about the details of fonts and typography, but I have a real true appreciation for it and I do so love using it as an artistic entity all in and of itself.

Today I have two places that use and specialize in the ascetic of true vintage typography. The first site is a place I found from my internet scouring.

House Industries is not vintage per se, but definitely carries a true hard core clean minimalist ascetic brought forth in mid century design. They have a site that sells designed fonts and housewares.

I myself picked up a couple sets of these storage boxes for my home. I wasn't going to get them but I couldn't stop thinking about them. 

My other site is one of my favorite places. I've been trolling the place for years now determined to get some of their amazing fonts.

Letterhead fonts specializes in vintage and retro fonts. Their craftsmanship is amazing, often offering many different styles of the same font in a family. There is truly no better place to go if you want to find just the most amazing typefaces. Supurb.

Happy Thursday everyone!

So sorry about the lack of posts this week. I've been drawing and as soon as I get home from work, I'm all about that. I have been sewing, finishing up a dress, and this weekend I plan on starting some of the MnM projects I've been prepping. A hat from my new repro being one of them...hehehehe.

But this week I have an oldie but goodie. 

I mentioned this on a previous catalog Sunday but it's so cool, I think it deserves another shout out.

Hi everyone!

Sorry for the lack of posts this week. I'm just resizing the robe pattern and frankly, that's not much to write a post about.

I did want to introduce a new segment to my blog. I'm thinking of doing it weekly, so we will see. I find a lot of cool stuff online, and people send me a lot of links that I think are awesome so here is Cool Vintage things on the Internet.

The blog Autostraddle has a series called '150 years of lesbians' where you see lovely ladies from the early time of the photograph to today. So many cool styles and clothes.

These are two of my favorite images they compiled from all over the web.

If you all find any cool links, blogs, etc that are of the vein of my interests of this blog (vintage sewing, size issues, women, people of color) pass them along so we can all get a kick out of them!
