Hello lovely people.
As I type this, I'm wearing my lovely brown/pink/powder blue jimjam pants. They fit great! But first, some progress info.

Let's chat about the sew-along.
Hello lovely people.
Bathing Suit Pt 4: Constructing a real suit.
After two mock ups I'm finally starting on the real suit and I'm excited!
Viva is just under two weeks away, and I gotta look the part!
I picked a middle range stiff woven cotton for the suit mainly because of how the fabric handles. It's not too heavy, but has a great pattern to hide any flaws I may make.
Also, because this is a non stretch suit, I wanted the fabric to be sturdy and hold up after many launders.
Bathing Suit pt 3: My second muslin
Good morning lovely people!
This weekend has been full of sewing for me. I just got into a zone on my baiting suit sew-along.
As you recall, the first mock up was quite successful, but it did have some minor fit issues. The waist was too large, and I blame that in part to my resistance to do princess seamed garments. I just know that they require so much fitting on my end until I'm happy with it that I don't bother. That and I think they make me look bad, but I digress.
Bathing Suit part 1: Grading the pattern
Good morning bathing suit enthusiasts!
Thanks for watching my drawing binge. I've just had these characters flowing in my head so I wanted to get them on paper while I had the passion to. But, as Viva nears, I must get started on this bathing suit if I'm going to do to it what I want to do to it. Oh, I have some grand plans.
NVL Fun in the Sun swim suit sew-along!
Get ready! It's time to prepare for fun and sun this summer and what better way to do that than to have a sew-along! I'm going to be making the super cute repro I recently listed in my store and I welcome you to join me.
For this sew along, I'm going to make the suit as is as a mock up just to figure out everything, then go into altering it and grading. I've started a pintrest board where I'll list a lot of progress pictures.
Banners galore!!
There is still plenty of time to grab this pattern and join in.
Yay sewing!!!
The Make and Mend 2012 sew-along is here!
In celebration of National Sewing Month I thought doing an MnM in September instead of last month would be more apt.
This year's MnM is going to be a little different. I'm going to focus on non day clothing items. Crafts and accessories! Yay! These are all items we need but don't necessarily give a lot of time to. I plan on making and reworking a number of things.
The criteria for this year's MnM is as follows.
- Make two crafts from scrap fabric, (hat, pot holders, table runner, etc.).
- Rework one garment.
- Make two wearable items not meant for day wear (i.e. : jim jams, robe, slip, etc.).
- Embellish one item (i.e. faggoting, pin tucking, embroidery, etc).
- Make one item (in addition or one of the items above) for someone else.
Now, since a lot of people are busy, I'm not going to ask anyone to participate directly in this sew along. If you want to, great! I'd love to have you! I'm going to place this picture in its own Pinterest board, and if you'd like to join in, re-pin this to your own MnM board and share it and post the images for all to see!
I'm going to run this MnM until the end of October.
Also, for those that DO wish to participate, and manage to complete the MnM, I'll offer a prize, one of my reproduction patterns of YOUR CHOOSING! Whoo hoo!
Okay all, the image is in its folder, so if you wish to participate, lets go!
Have a great weekend!
The Plain Pattern Project recap
Happy New Year everyone!
With the benchmark of a new year I feel a bit ashamed at asking, what happened!?
The Plain Pattern Project kind of teetered off the far end for mostly everyone. I get it, we all get busy, but I tried my darndest to keep it going and finished my three dresses. Did anyone finish?Perhaps I was not the best hostess for the project. I did try to encourage as much as I could. Even hosted two giveaways? Is there anything else I could have done, or was I just a victim to the tide of people with busy lives? I think the ladder.
Well, it's water under there bridge.
With the positive view of the philosophy of the PPP, I think it can be an ongoing sewing tenant. Take a look at those plain patterns every once and a while. Appreciate them and study the craftsmanship of them. I can't tell you how much I learned from this exercise.
The Plain Pattern Project Giveaway!!
Happy Monday one and all. I hope you all are recovering from The Walking Dead premiere (I'm a dork, I know!). Guess what, I have a giveaway for you!!
Let's talk about the sew-along.
This week I continued on with my get crap done initiative.
I have this wax plant clipping that I got about 10 years ago when I was still in college. This one is about 5 years old. It's safe to call it a plant now, I think :) It's starting to flower again, and there is nothing more wondrous than smelling these sweet flowers on the air as you sleep. It's heavenly.
Progress, progress, progress.
Hey everyone! I've had my hands in quite a few things these past few days so sorry for the MIA-ness.
One good thing is I started on some of my underthings. Well, I cut out some of them anyway. I got this white poplin a while ago I was going to use for mockups but in taking stock of my underthings situation, I decided to use it to make some breeches. I like to wear breeches when I wear dresses with my garter belt and stockings. They are cool and comfy and keep my thighs from touching. Perfect.
NVL's new sew along: The Plain Pattern Project
Ah, girlie colors again. I have missed thee.
First off, I would like to thank everyone who participated in my Make and Mend sew along. It was the largest group I've ever had for a sew along, so thank you all immensely. I still have a couple of projects to finish up (the burlap bag included) so stay turned for those.
Now that we have mended some stuff, perhaps we are all in the mood to make some new stuff!?
Chambray alteration pt 1
Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all are still plugging away on your Make and Mend projects. I've been blog hopping and I'm seeing tons of people taking advantage of the Make and Mend mentality. It's inspiring! Keep it up!
I guess you could call this an alteration, though, with all the summer refashions going on in the sewing blogosphere, it seems to be an epidemic!
