Flapper dress conclusion.

Oh dust bowl, how I love thee.

I finally finished all the hand sewing on my flapper dress. I do think it turned out rather well. The sheer fabric is so light and breezy, and I think I have somewhere to wear it to next week.

Queen Mary weekend 2011 pt 2: The Pool *reposted*

*The QM actually contacted me about these pictures and said they were forwarded to their security team. I took down the post then realized what was done was done, so here's the post again.*
I finally got to see the pool! The ship originally had two; one for first class passengers (this one) and a smaller one for second class passengers. Apparently the second class pool got ripped out some time ago and when the engines were removed from the QM, the floor of this pool became unstable because the engines were right beneath it. So it's been off limits ever since.

Queen Mary weekend 2011 pt 1

Yeah, I've been MIA this past weekend.

Wow, did this year's Queen Mary weekend sneak up on me. As you all recall last year I planned exhaustively for the weekend. I worked on my wardrobe for weeks, but this year I decided to go a more casual route and I'm glad for it. I took three dresses, one coat and few accessories and some jeans and a blouse. It was perfect.

Perspective Analysis

If you have had as may patterns come in and out of your life as I have, you often note the times when you see the duplicates. I love finding duplicates and seeing where in the size scale they sit.

I like to wonder how the pieces for that 32 bust would look as a 40 bust. The scale of size, what section was enlarged, etc. It just makes my brain go all crazy and makes me wonder what the pattern makers were thinking when they graded the patterns.

I want to be a unicorn!

Perhaps when I was 4 years old, along side a mermaid and a veterinarian.
But it's a very eye catching post title, isn't it? :D
I finally had my hair in a situation where I could wear the bonnet.

New Pattern Day Yay!

Happy Monday everyone!
As I transition from my fun and depressing depression era fashion interest, I want to get lively with some fun 40s styles for summer. What better way to do that than to introduce a new repro pattern!

This pattern actually dates from the late 30s. 1938 to be exact. But fear not, its got all those grand transition flares that funnel right into the fab 40s.

The biggest accent on this dress is the bodice. Its bias cut, cross over, and looped at the collar bone to create an amazing accent at the neckline. The pattern is a 42 bust, 36 waist and 45 hip.

As for finishing up my dust bowl sewing, I've completed most of the sewing on the flapper dress. I've got to hem the skirt and sleeves. More on that tomorrow. I also have to make up an under dress for it. That should not take too long either. I tried it on the other day and I really like the look. It will totally work for summer.

That's about it for now. I hope everyone has a great week.

Catalog Sunday

This Sunday I'm posting my last dust bowl fashions post.
More styles from the 30/31 Lane Bryant catalog.

Where have I been? Getting new repros ready!

Hi everyone. It's been an MIA week for me. I've been doing some thinking, taking some personal time, and taking long walks to clear my thoughts. It's enjoyable walking around and looking at the people, buildings and whatnot. I've been snapping photos of ignored LA, and I'll post pics every now and then.

Some good things have happened in my Etsy store. I've had my 600th order, and FINALLY my 1000th store bookmark! Yay! *whew* That was an uphill climb! I have to thank everyone who has supported me in this, I sincerely appreciate it.

Catalog Sunday

This Sunday I have sewing patterns and fabrics from Wards 1929/1930.
I was drooling over those fabric prints.
Enjoy!

1920s Sun Bonnet

Then it was time to cut out the netting. I wanted the brim of the hat to be floppy, but have some body. The linen I'm using for the hat is quite thin. I was debating with myself if I was going to interline it with the cotton for more body. In the end I decided to simply double the netting. That was a good decision.

Progress on my flapper dress.

Hi all. I have been sewing in the heat of this new May. I cut out and started to put together the flapper dress I mentioned earlier. I decided to finish the dress with French seams (thanks!) because the fabric was so sheer.

Working on the scalloped waistline was a challenge, especially with that seam finish. I don't think I did too bad a job and I feel the print of he fabric will cover any real mistakes.

How do you gauge friendships?

Has this ever happened to you?

I had a rather strange situation happen to me yesterday. A friend, lets call her Erica, sent me a rather long venting email. In it she described, more or less, an emotional bullet point account of some instances in which she claims I made her feel, "stupid and emotionally deflated'. Now, I take no responsibility whatsoever in how my words make someone feel unless I am being verbally abusive, overly cynical or just plain mean, which I was not. In instances cited, she mentioned asking my opinion on something, "Do you like this?", "No," I said as matter of factly as I could. No venom or spite in my tone, just a 'no'. I get that people are not used to hearing no anymore, but I don't see it as a curse word. And just because I say no does not make your opinion any less valid. I don't have or want that type of control over you. I would also think any other person in the world would be strong enough to know that.
